The Compendium of Wild Edibles is a testament to the rich traditional knowledge and wisdom of the rural farmers of Morigaon district, Assam. Developed through the dedicated intervention of the FARM Northeast – Phase III project, implemented by the Guwahati Gana Seva Society (GGSS) in collaboration with Caritas India and supported by Misereor, Germany. This manual is a collective effort to document and preserve the diverse wild edible plants that have sustained local communities for generations.
Rooted in indigenous practices, this compendium highlights the nutritional, medicinal, and ecological significance of wild edibles, offering insights into their sustainable use and conservation. Through participatory engagement, farmers, elders, and local knowledge holders shared their deep understanding of these natural food resources, reinforcing the vital role of traditional wisdom in ensuring food security and resilience.
By compiling this valuable knowledge, the manual serves not only as a guide for the present generation but also as a legacy for future custodians of this age-old heritage. It is our hope that this initiative will empower communities, promote biodiversity conservation, and foster sustainable livelihoods in the region.
